Wireless Networking Gets Boost at UTS FIT

Cisco Systems has generously donated a wireless networking kit to the Faculty's Cisco Networking Academy. This kit supports a variety of wireless topologies, peer to peer, host to access point, and wireless bridge to bridge. The equipment supports the Networking Academies Fundamentals of Wireless LANs curriculum and labratory work. The theory and practice prepares students to enter the important world of wireless networking. Students learn how scuj infrastructure integrates with an enterprises other networking resources and how mobile workers are supported. As part of their experience, students learn to design, build and support wireless LANs and their users. It is expected that the curriculum and laboratory work will be incorporated into a number of the Department of Computer Systems mobile computing units next year. The kit is valued at $US16,700 list and can support up to 10 students simultaneously.
